The Transitory

When I moved to Bozeman, Montana from suburbia outside of Richmond, Virginia, it occurred to me that I came from a neighborhood that had no cultural identity. My photographs reflect my experiences over the past three years, and what I see as describing a locality’s cultural identity. The landscapes show the material artifacts on the land suggesting the history and culture of the place, while focusing on things that will experience change in the future. The people I photograph are never taken out of their environments--just directed out of their daily routines for my camera. The portraits show the working class and those that make the infrastructure operate. The places are secured and the encounters preserved through the photographs, showing a glimpse of environment’s everyday appearance while foreshadowing the future.
